No. Sleep. Till Taupo!
Get sideways! Keisuke over @ 86Fighters has been hanging out in NZ and hanging it out with his drifting posse in Taupo.
This weekend was very eventful, normally quite important things like sleep and healthy food were not a priority: Late nights, drinking and having fun were on the agenda. Monday was a Drift Motorsports NZ track day run by Drew and Jodie, and a group of us had planned to go down to taupo on Sunday and stay the night….
What is it with drifters and being loose, crazy party-animals? Must come with the job description! Check out the gallery @ 86Fighters for more pics of the crazy weekend!
HachiRockin’ The Super GP
Diehard drift addict & HR Member Sam Holz was once again ripping up the taxpayers tarmac at this years Super GP! The four days of Super GP were said to be almost dreamlike: drifting the main streets of the Gold Coast with the cops waving at you to speed up – not slow down!
After taking some time out to recover from the post-race ‘celebrations’, we caught up with Sam for a little insight into his weekend:
The car was fitted with a matt black BN body kit from Ant @ Kaizen Garage. It had to be fitted to participate in the on track demos at the Super GP and also for thee Friday night competition (where the pics are from). Basic stickers were added to ‘spice’ the car up a bit too. New diff gears were also added two weeks before the event due to damaging the old ones. With only limited choice of a solitary diff centre, I had to go with a somewhat odd 4.8 ratio which was a big step from the 3.9 I’ve been running for what seems forever. All in all, the car held up well and with high temps on track, a water cooling setup was added at the last minute. In typical 86 fashion, we just moved the windscreen sprayer lines to the front to cool the oil cooler and radiator. It was budget but it worked – and well! The throttle was sticking on full throttle all night at the comp and making things interesting but that was fixed for the GP with some backyard spacing and adding a large return spring to the throttle.
We’re you there to see it? If not, the boys should be at it again next year, so keep and eye on the Super GP website. Hit the jump for more pics!
MotorDriven x HR AE86 Annual
Local AE86 owner and gun lensman Matt Mead certainly gets around the motorsport traps here in Australia, but he took time out last weekend to join us on the 2009 HR AE86 Annual. Check out his shots over at his blog MotorDriven.
Honda Love
Yes, you did see that correctly: a Honda steering wheel inside a hachi! :) RA64 Freddy spotted this US Corolla GT-S on a meet in a local car park called Tropical Park. It turned out to be a 90% Honda/Acura meet but he thought he stroke gold when he spotted a hachi among them!
This Hachi was one of two ’Yotas at the meet..ehhh..but it had a Honda soul…I was looking for 4AG with ITB’s..
When he looked inside he saw that even the steering wheel had been swapped…
But is it that bad? No, I think not. The hachi is now powered by a F20c so its heart is already a Honda anyway so go with the flow!
Read more about the Tropic Park meet here.
HR AE86 Annual 2009: The Conspiracy…
The HR AE86 Annual for 2009 has come and gone… Even though everything was against us and many things tried to stop us!
International Drift Series Rd.6 @ Lausitz
It has already been 2 weeks since the last round of the International Drift Series (www.idrifts.de) has passed and we are already in full preperation for next weekend’s last round.
HR AE86 Annual THIS SUNDAY!
Lock up your Mothers and Daughters!! HR is back for the Australian AE86 Annual event is this weekend!! This Sunday will be a fun packed day of celebrating our favourite car.
We will be having a BBQ and touge cruise and to keep the disractions to a minimum, the touge route will be revealed on the day. The day ends at Como Pub for some shit talking, cool ales and some great food!
Sunday Meeting Point (Google Maps Link)
Lambeth Reserve Carpark (the big one not the small one), Revesby @ 11:30AM (For your GPS people, it’s at the intersection of The River Road and Henry Lawson Drive)

Ireland Annual Meet ’09
Over 80 (was it 86 exactly?) AE86’s and retro Toyotas were in attendance at the Irish Annual meet held in Kilkenny, Ireland on the 19th of September. The crew (mostly hailing from AE86IRL.com) came from far and wide across the emerald isle to attend the meet, which included drifting and diffin’ at a local boot sale yard. I dream of the day where we can see 80 AE86’s all in unison at one event here in Australia! Nice work lads and lasses!
Check out the photos from the event here and here.

AE86 Annual Time – Only 3 Weeks To Go!
Don’t forget! The HR AE86 Annual is only 3 weeks away on the 24th and 25th of October in Sydney!!
If you have been to the last few, you know what goes on! If you haven’t been before, now’s the chance to find out what all the fun is about!
We are having a track day at Marulan on the Saturday with both grip and drift sessions available, so what ever your action – being slideways, finding the fastest way through a corner or both – come on down! At only $120 dollars for the day, its the cheapest action your going to get without visiting Kings Cross!
There will be BBQ lunch on hand and drinks available, and spectactors will be free. So if you’re not driving, bring your camera and shoot all the action you can! Sunday will be the usual BBQ lunch, talk shop and hard parking. After that its the secret touge route and then to the pub! Anything in between that can and does happen (and I do mean anything) and will be up to you to decide!
To register for the track day, visit our forums here. HOPE WE SEE YOU THERE!!
The Top Step
Just like Sebastian Vettel at this weekends Japanese Grand Prix, Mark Rogers stood atop the winners podium having taken out the win at the fourth round of the Specialised Performance Garage Tasmanian Drift Series. Everyone here at HR congratulates you Mark, and are super proud to see that distinctive icon adorn the bonnet of your 3S-powered beast!
