Lightweight RS Watanabe 8-Spoke
Alexi, fresh from his trip to Nostalgic2Days, has some breaking news:
Falcon had their full range of Watanabes on display but were quite keen to show me their new magnesium wheel, which weighs only 4.6kg in 14×7. It was kind of weird to pick it up, as your brain keeps telling you that it should weigh more than it does.
Cheers to Noriyaro for the Headsup.
AJPS FC RX-7 Brake Adaptor Kit
Now the AE86 might not be the most powerful nor the heaviest car out there, but it needs to stop well just the same as any other car out there. The standard brake set-up on the upper AE86 models were adequate for the stock engine, but seeing as most of us are running with more power they should be upgraded to suit.
AutoArt 1/18 AE86 Initial-D Version
AutoArt, the purveyors of some of the finest replica models on earth, have released their new 1/18 scale AE86 Trueno. However this time they have gone after the Initial-D franchise and have very accurately represented Takumi’s original-spec hachiroku.
Tec-Art’s 4-Pot Brake Kit
After seeing Beauman had purchased the Willwood brake kit for his drift AE86 build, I started thinking – Just what kind of bolt-on alternatives are out there? Well it just so happens after some random ‘net browsing I see that the guys over at Tec-Art’s have recently developed their own.
Has The ‘Economy Crisis’ Slowed Your ’86 Build?
As most of us who live in Australia already know, buying AE86 parts from overseas has now become quite well, insane. Currency rates have almost halved from what they were 4 months ago and as a result a lot of the local parts imports companies have gone belly up.
Having just dropped over 3 large on a bodykit shipped to Sydney, I can say that for me it hasn’t slowed down. It’s a case of ‘I need it now, and the economy isn’t going back to where it was anytime soon’ philosophy and a need to finish a project that was started in motion before the crisis hit.
The alternative is buying locally made parts, but the problem is there just isn’t enough variety of aftermarket products for the AE86 being produced locally to provide alternatives to buying American or Japanese. I can’t speak for our American or European readers but here in Aus we have no choice but to import.
What are your attitudes towards the situation? Are you prepared to pay for what you need regardless of the price? Or are you waiting until the dollar/euro/pound gets stronger before you commit to buy?

Tomei Needs Your Input!
Tomei Japan have contacted HR to get the word out about their plans to develop a 5A-G kit. They have blueprint designs for the crank and conrods already but are in desperate need of more information on possible potential customer requests!
Everyone Loves A Sweet Rack
AJPS is normally the four letters you will hear after someone asks where can I get some fly shit for my Toyota? Well hold on to your flat brims cause AJPS are pulling out all the stops for the new year. That means either making or bringing in the bits you normally have a hard time getting or haven’t been made yet, and today’s blog is exactly on the money!
What Dave at AJPS is offering to all you lucky cats today is steering rack bushings. ‘Oh whoopee’ you say like my whole intro did nothing for the outcome…. But think about it for a second – the rack bushings are one of the items that connects your steering to the road and is responsible for steering feedback and those annoying shakes you get from your ‘negative-six-demon-camber-Hachi-Roku’ when rolling at over 60kmph.
Still not sold? How about going and having a look under your car and see the condition the stock ones are in now? Ok did I mention these are only $44AUD including shipping (within AUS)? Now compare that to bog stock Toyota ones which are a whopping $120 NOT including shipping!
These bushes are made in conjunction with AJPS and Super Pro Bushings. These are specifically made for the AE86 and our “spirited” style of driving. They will be available for shipping end of this month and are available for everyone to purchase, even Polar Bears in the Arctic Circle! So yes – worldwide!
That means all our Euro brothers, NZ cousins and USA mates can get their hands on these (shipping price may differ). So join the 80+ people that already have their names down for this awesome, simple and inexpensive product! This is great product for anyone if you are a regular track demon or just like a daily touge driver this is a product for everyone! GET ON IT and register in the thread now or contact Dave @ AJPS on ajpsautoparts@gmail.com or by phone on 0407 716 089.
Keep your eyes peeled for a fitment guide coming up!
Heads Up! Clear Cam Covers
A new offering! The original Japanese made clear covers from 5 or 6 years ago use to sell for $300+!!! This guy Zaklee Corp (in the Club4AG thread) claims he’ll be selling for a steal @ $80USD when the final production run gets the go-ahead… Check them over at the forums on Club4AG if you’re up for it!
Fresh Blood
Some interesting styling changes from the guys @ J-Blood with their new line of bodykits released early this month. First thing that really pops out is the radical new rear bumper design incorporating a wrap-under rear diffuser and their addition of a similar front diffuser/air intake to the newly-redesigned front bumper, which reaches all the way under the engine to the crossmember and sports a quirky air-vent.
Pictured with the blister over-fender kit, type-2 carbon hood and type-2 wing, the new additions to the kit certainly look unique, but personally I think it will look more in place on the D1GP circuit machines than on ’86s rockin’ the everyday streeter look – cars that the old J-Blood styles previously lended themselves to so well.

New AE86 F20C Parts Out!
JSP Fabrication have caught the F20C AE86 bug and have apparently made up the first and only bolt in engine conversion mount set for installing the Honda S2000 engine into the ’86. The kit sits the engine and gearbox into the car with no need to cut the firewall or modify the hood to clear – a massive benefit for those without a welder!
The result is an F20C which sits very low in the engine bay lowering the overall centre of gravity of the car and keeping the very agile feel of the original AE86 configuration. An added bonus is the factory 4A-GE and S2000 rubber engine mounts keeping the engine vibration to a bare minimum. They also offer a 4A-GE turbo manifold and various other model bits and pieces too.
Check ’em out here.
