RIP: The Local
Here’s local drifter and longtime HR member Beau Jones cutting it up in his SR86 on the last ever drift meet at Oran Park before they bulldoze it all away for new housing developments. Smashing his gearbox early in the day, Beau wasn’t about to pack it up and run home, instead he stuck to going flat chat in only second and third gear for the remainder of the day. It’s a sad day and it will mean the death of one of the best drifting circuits in Sydney and a good amount of Sydney’s drifting trackdays too. If you like what you see (and hear) and want more grassroots Aussie drifting, head over to his website DriftKulture and soak it up.
Hugo’s Hotness
Good friend of NZ AE86 maniac (and HR’s buddy) Keisuke, Hug-o at GarageRS is equally as crazy about hachirokus and evidently also as talented with getting things sideways. Hug-o’s Levin hatchback wears some pretty tidy dress–up parts for what most people would deem ‘too-nice’ for a drift car, but we love any AE86 that looks this clean and goes this hard!
Hug-o has compiled a bunch of his best photos of a recent trackday venture over at his blog, GarageRS – so check it out and let him know which one is YOUR favourite!
From Warsaw With Love
Lovely bit of video editing here. Hit the Vimeo page for HD quality! Thanks to the mad Polishman Mark Pakula for the heads up!
Smash & Grab
Grassroots drifting at its best. Rod from SPEEDHUNTERS blog has a sweet featurette on one of the local Canadian drifters Chris Scremin. Finishing third in the 2009 Drift Mania West Canadian series, he is one of the top drifters from the Canadian ‘West-Coast’. As a result, the hachi he masterfully pilots week-in week-out is a pretty rough and tumble affair. Rod writes:
As you can expect at typical North American grass roots drift event, the majority of the cars competing were S chassis of various types. But one drifter chose to break the mold with his choice of car and went in a more old school direction: his name is Chris Scremin and this is his 1985 SR-86.

Autumn Drift Matsuri
Dino over at SPEEDHUNTERS was lucky enough to be at the Autumn drift matsuri last weekend and he snapped some cool shots of hachirokus on the track.
Check out the gallery (the first of no doubt a few!) at SPEEDHUNTERS.
No. Sleep. Till Taupo!
Get sideways! Keisuke over @ 86Fighters has been hanging out in NZ and hanging it out with his drifting posse in Taupo.
This weekend was very eventful, normally quite important things like sleep and healthy food were not a priority: Late nights, drinking and having fun were on the agenda. Monday was a Drift Motorsports NZ track day run by Drew and Jodie, and a group of us had planned to go down to taupo on Sunday and stay the night….
What is it with drifters and being loose, crazy party-animals? Must come with the job description! Check out the gallery @ 86Fighters for more pics of the crazy weekend!
HachiRockin’ The Super GP
Diehard drift addict & HR Member Sam Holz was once again ripping up the taxpayers tarmac at this years Super GP! The four days of Super GP were said to be almost dreamlike: drifting the main streets of the Gold Coast with the cops waving at you to speed up – not slow down!
After taking some time out to recover from the post-race ‘celebrations’, we caught up with Sam for a little insight into his weekend:
The car was fitted with a matt black BN body kit from Ant @ Kaizen Garage. It had to be fitted to participate in the on track demos at the Super GP and also for thee Friday night competition (where the pics are from). Basic stickers were added to ‘spice’ the car up a bit too. New diff gears were also added two weeks before the event due to damaging the old ones. With only limited choice of a solitary diff centre, I had to go with a somewhat odd 4.8 ratio which was a big step from the 3.9 I’ve been running for what seems forever. All in all, the car held up well and with high temps on track, a water cooling setup was added at the last minute. In typical 86 fashion, we just moved the windscreen sprayer lines to the front to cool the oil cooler and radiator. It was budget but it worked – and well! The throttle was sticking on full throttle all night at the comp and making things interesting but that was fixed for the GP with some backyard spacing and adding a large return spring to the throttle.
We’re you there to see it? If not, the boys should be at it again next year, so keep and eye on the Super GP website. Hit the jump for more pics!
International Drift Series Rd.6 @ Lausitz
It has already been 2 weeks since the last round of the International Drift Series (www.idrifts.de) has passed and we are already in full preperation for next weekend’s last round.
The Top Step
Just like Sebastian Vettel at this weekends Japanese Grand Prix, Mark Rogers stood atop the winners podium having taken out the win at the fourth round of the Specialised Performance Garage Tasmanian Drift Series. Everyone here at HR congratulates you Mark, and are super proud to see that distinctive icon adorn the bonnet of your 3S-powered beast!
