Autumn Drift Matsuri
Dino over at SPEEDHUNTERS was lucky enough to be at the Autumn drift matsuri last weekend and he snapped some cool shots of hachirokus on the track.
Check out the gallery (the first of no doubt a few!) at SPEEDHUNTERS.
Does It Matter?
We have no idea which circuit in Japan this is or even when these shots were taken, but does it matter? Love livin’ the ’86 life!
Only The Best
Complete bare metal restoration with a rebuild from mostly new genuine parts! Not only that but an AE111 20 valve swap and enough Cusco and Greddy suspension parts to send you broke three times over!
Okayama AE86 Festival 2009
Just when I thought the ’09 event had dropped off the face of the earth, Justin @ 7TUNE saves the day with their late (but still very much appeciated) coverage of the AE86 Festival in Okayama International Circuit. I’ve spent the last week scouring mixi, minkara and a selection of Japanese ’86 blogs from Hiroshima and not a single decent (ie non camer-phone pic) from the event has been uploaded. Lucky for us, we have 7TUNE in Japan doing the ’86 community worldwide a favor by getting these up. Maybe 2010 will be the year I finally get to this hallowed gathering?
I must say the event, which in 2009 celebrates it’s 10th anniversary, is getting even more polished and professional the older it gets. Just the sheer quality of the cars presented to race is simply phenomenal, not to mention the minters in the carpark!
I must say, that BANKING Levin in bronze had to be my favorite of the day. Simple and unique! Check out the huge gallery over at the 7TUNE site. … and once youre done there, i suggest reminicing with our 2008 coverage of the event here!
The First Rally AE86!
The picture above is showing the first usage of the Toyota AE86 in Rally sports and possibly also the first use of the AE86 in motorsports at all!
The screenshot was taken from a collection of videos (13 in total!) of the first AE86 to be entered the All Japan Rally Championship B Class. This particular round was held on June 4th and 5th 1983. Since Toyota first started the AE86 production in May 1983, these brand new hachis must still have smelled like a typical 1983-era Japanese Toyota showroom when they rolled up to compete in this rally!
Hit the jump for the videos and more history!
86 Day @ Nikko
Finally we have the photo coverage from the 86 Day event at Nikko Circuit last week. Alexi @ Noriyaro has put up a mixed bag of the cars that attended the celebrations. I particularly like the black KDS coupe and this lovely white hatch pictured above… so clean.
Check out yesterday’s Part 1 here while you wait for todays part 2, which should be up in no time!
2009 AE86 Festival
It’s happening again! 2009 marks the 10th anniversary of the event, and Okayama International Circuit will again host the N2-style Challenge Cup Race! There will no doubt be much more AE86 love happening over the weekend too! I love this video, it’s reminiscent of the crazy antics of our very own AE86 Annual, except on a much larger, Japanesey scale!
After you are smiling like an idiot from watching the video, check out last year’s coverage by HR Blogger Harley, and then fall off your chair!
ONESHOT: Asayan’s AE86
It’s a Coffee-inspired, Hayashi Street Finned, curb hopping maniac! Alexi @ Noriyaro has a couple of stories up about this creamy coupe.
This rather neat AE86 belongs to a guy who goes by the nickname “Asayan”. Asayan works at a body shop in Osaka called “Looking”, who are well known for their extremely stylish paintjobs. Not only that, Looking are obsessed with drifting as well, and run several “HitomiGo” events a year at Meihan Circuit, named after Hitomi, the other half of Looking.
So check out the statics (when it’s not hanging five @ Maze Circuit) and motion shots (when it is) over at Noriyaro!
So Fresh, So Clean
Tec-Art’s have another super-clean AE86 up in their ever expanding photo gallery and I think it’s fitting for the lead up to Hachiroku Day. In Japan, it’s written 8/6, which technically isn’t today for us Aussies (since its the 6th of the 8th here….) but the Japanese & Americans love it all the same! Anyway, who needs an excuse to drool over sweet ’86’s anyhow?
Check out the gallery here!
Goto-San In Action
Okay, we all saw pictures of Goto-san’s insane boro AE86 by Alexi Smith at Nori Yaro and we all saw videos of him drifting near the sidewall on several drift events and circuits but what you probably didn’t see yet (unless you read this article at 7tune.com) is what it looks like to sit next to him!
