’86 Wins @ Rally of South Canterbury 08
First in class, first in 2WD and 15th overall. It doesn’t matter if they are from Australia or New Zealand, these rally ’86 nuts are on form and showing the rally fraternity of evos and wrx’s that the little hachiroku has still got the balls to rumble with the best. The pilot of this particular blue Levin is Kiwi Lyndon Galbraith with his brother Darren giving the directions. Just listening to that 4A scream makes me grin like an idiot. Great work lads, you make us all proud! Check out some great in-car footage of the many stages of the event here.
’86 Takes Out F16 ARC Rally QLD!
Ben and the crew at Cullen RallySport have successfully completed ARC Rally Queensland taking top honours in the F16 Championship and also the ‘Quickest 2WD Car’ at the end of the event.
Despite some minor starter issues throughout the weekend the little ’86 ran flawlessly, getting quicker and quicker throughout the event! Despite their main competition falling foul of the fast and tricky roads, the Sprinter took the win all the while reaching nearly 180 km/h on some of the faster sections of the rally.
The team now has a break before the next round planned round of the ARC, Rally Melbourne for some much needed car upgrades to the engine and braking systems which will help maintain the lead they currently have in F16 Championship.
AE86 Wins @ Rally of Canberra!
Remember Ben Cullen with his Group A Rally TTA Levin coupe Replica we showed you last month? Well at the Rally of Canberra on May 10-11, his trusty little Sprinter took out the F16 Class win! I’ll leave you with his comments after the jump to full summise the weekends trials and tribulations that got them to the top of the podium.
Video: NZ AE86 Rally Car
If you guys haven’t realised yet, I’m a bit of a rally nut….. Anyway I found this video of a New Zealand AE86 getting thrashed through the forests. This guy’s a really good steerer and I’m sure the car has lots of choice bits under it. The driver, Lyndon Galbraith, ended up finishing 1st in class, 1st 2WD and 15th outright, which is a pretty good result considering he would have been taking it easy as he just spent $20g refurbishing the car with a brand new drivetrain.
Here is the in-car footage from the first stage:
Also i found a newspaper article about the event:
Cullen Motorsport: Aussie Rally-spec AE86
The NSW Oberon Rally was on last weekend and Ben Cullen with his Group A Rally TTA Levin coupe Replica hit the dirt and came out of the event with an awesome result placing 12th outright out of a field of 42. He also placed 1st P2 (1300-1600cc class) which by any measure is an awesome start to his 2008 rally assault. Ben says 2008 will see him competing in both of the New South Wales events of the Australian Rally Championship as well as the State Championship.
