CBY @ Nikko Circuit
Slowly, like some kinda ’86 crack dealer, Alexi from Noriyaro is tantilising us with footage from the 8/6 Day @ Nikko Circuit. First up are these shots of the ‘record breaking’ CBY Trueno. It’s cars like this that really back up my reasons of loving white Trueno 3-doors with HUGE negative offset Watanabe wheels. It just looks so damn purposed and serious.
Not-So-Tourist Trophy
The guys over at Club4AG are celebrating as one of their own, Peter Diaz, has taken out the Hot Import Nights Englishtown ‘Best Driven Toyota” and “Best Driven Vehicle 99’ and Under” with his super clean Kouki-nosed Corolla GT-S Trueno. Congrats to Peter and the Team Toyminator crew and keep reppin those hachirokus!
Hit up the C4AG forums for the rest of the pictures!
Canadian Cool
Not only the country of some of the best snow fields in the world, Canada is also the home to some hella cool AE86s! PDM racing is one workshop who is pushing the hachiroku envelope in the land of the maple leaf and they’ve posted up their build up log for the trueno race car they built recently.
With nothing more than a bone stock 1986 black on black coupe with only lowering springs, no lsd, worn rubber bushings and stock brakes, the crew at PDM set out on a task to transform the sedate street driven car into a serious competitor.
Hit this link for the log and big cheers to the guys over @ 86ers blog for the story!
Hibino Qualifies First in Autopolis D1GP
Over the weekend it was a special cocktail of AE86 community love that brought everyone’s favourite Ebisu-jumping-drift master into the number one qualifying spot. Driving Toshiki Yoshioka’s old red NOS-assisted 4A-GE, now painted in a striking coat of matte black (and sporting some wicked bolt on flares), Hibino worked his way into the top spot in preparation for Sunday’s showdown.
Unfortunately the race day was not as kind to him, as the final standings saw him in fourth position, knocked out in the semi by the eventual round winner (and AE86 legend himself) Youichi Imamura driving the Team BOSS Potenza-backed S15 . Fourth isn’t the win but still a position worthy of some praise – especially considering the calibre of top-notch sponsored teams up against him! Well done Hibino! Can’t wait for the exhibition round in Tokyo!
The Man Behind DriftKulture
Possibly the most outspoken and in your face person in the Aussie AE86 scene, Beauman Jones, son of legendary hot-rod builder and multiple-time Summernats Champion Mark ‘FAT57‘ Jones, gives HR Blog a few minutes to fill us in on his new project: DriftKulture.
Naturally Aspirated Nirvana
One of my favorite cars of all time, this Trueno’s photo still hangs proudly over my workspace on a poster that’s over 3 years old. When the car was released, it was exactly what I wanted: Big offset, super wide body and clean paint. Built by Tama Autos and owned by Kiwi GarethThode, this hachiroku is one of NZ’s best.
“I built this car to have a clean, well performing 86,” Gareth told us. As it ripped past, throttle wide open in third gear, deep-dish rims gleaming beneath a widened body it became pretty obvious that he has achieved exactly what he set out to do…

T10’s Twin Truenos
Who would’ve thought two guys from Turn10 (the studio behind Forza Motorsport 2 on the XBOX360) own AE86s? They decided to get together to shoot these two pristine examples one afternoon when the sun was shining through the clouds of Northern California.
Art’s Trueno is just straight cleanliness. Definitely one of the cleanest, well maintained Corollas in the area, and when I first found out he owned one I got really excited. Not only can we talk shop about our favorite 80’s econobox, but we can also do cool things like taking pictures of our prized possessions.
As you can see we are both rocking the “Kouki” (late model) front end, with his being the factory JDM front (pure hotness). Add in some Volks, some nice suspension, the cleanest 86 engine bay I’ve seen in a while and you have Art’s Corolla. It’s also worth mentioning that he’s owned this car for nearly 5 years, creeping up on OG rolla status.
Get over to the T10 Studios blog and check them out!
The Master At Work!
In my general searching on YouTube I found this video of Ueo which was just uploaded today. It’s 2 minutes of 4A-GE symphony with the best steerer piloting a truly amazing AE86. It’s simply breathtaking how aggressive Ueo is behind the wheel and it’s a real shame he no longer drives a Hachi Roku in D1.
Yahoo Auction Japan: TUBE Garage
Every time I look on yahoo auctions Japan, you usually find all these beaten up cars and you may come across something amazing but not that often. However, you always see some super mint cars from the restoration company Tube. Every car they post up is lightly modified, but also look factory mint with some nice offset wheels.
Sotiros Trueno!
This months interview is with Andrew Sotiros’ and his experience with his new JDM Trueno hatchback. Andrew is just finishing his HSC and has been after a ’86 for a long time and he finally snatched himself one. So we thought we would have a chat to a new ’86 owner and see what he thinks so far and check out his ride!
