An Elusive Beauty
Photographer Jeff Creech shot this retro-themed stunner at Formula Drift Atlanta. Longchamp wheels, N2 bodykit and the most awesome rendition of an 80s-era race paint scheme I’ve seen yet. I’ve done some searching in the U.S. forums but unfortunately can’t find any more info on this elusive beauty. If your are the owner of this Levin, get in contact with us; we’d love to do a proper feature and an interview. If your not this lucky owner but also have a retro-racer of your own, jump on the email and let us know! We hachiroku enthusiasts should know; you can’t forget your roots! Gotta love the old stuff!
For the rest of you AE86 maniacs, check the pics after the jump! Cheers to Matt Mead for the link.
DeadPirate x Tommy Suell’s AE86
Just a quick video from me today. Apologies for the late posting, had far too much fun on the slopes this weekend on my snowboard and completely KO’d before I could write up a blog. Enjoy this tasty morsel of drift action from DeadPirateProductions for now, and we are back to normal programming tomorrow!
Hot Hot Heat @ FormulaD Vegas
Long time die-hard AE86 addict and friend of HR Blog, Antonio Alvendia is again behind the lens, this time shooting the USA’s latest drifting events. From the latest round of FormulaD last weekend he brings us this tasty morsel of hachiroku lovin’.
Back on the grid, Vegas native Tommy Suell had to cool his SR-powered AE86 down quickly in between tandem drifting runs with Apex’i driver Ryuji Miki. We’re not sure if everyone realizes it, but Tommy’s AE86 is actually right hand drive. Tommy grew up in Japan and can speak fluent Japanese. Hopefully he is comfortable enough to cuss Miki out in Japanese for beating him in tandem! Props to Tommy and his crew for all their hard work! Notice the Vegas number on Tommy’s door? 777 spin em!
While RHD ’86s are the norm for us here Down Under, it’s a pretty rare thing to see in the ‘States. Check out the rest of the set over @ MotorMavens!
All AE86 Drift Comp
A couple of weeks back, the norcal AE86 guys got together (with the assistance of many, including Drift Social) for a day of fun and drifting. Lots of prizes and what seems flawless organisation the day made it a huge success. This quote from forum member MayanWarrior really tells you what these local AE86 meets are all about:
Me and ma lady, Elysha, will definitely remember this day for the rest of our lives. This really brought back a lot of great 86 culture memories. Everyone is so awesome! I’m so glad the media and popularity of these little slide buckets hasn’t changed the attitude of the Corolla owner at all.
Hell yeah! Check out the event threads here and here and the Picasa album (sorted by car number) here.
Not-So-Tourist Trophy
The guys over at Club4AG are celebrating as one of their own, Peter Diaz, has taken out the Hot Import Nights Englishtown ‘Best Driven Toyota” and “Best Driven Vehicle 99’ and Under” with his super clean Kouki-nosed Corolla GT-S Trueno. Congrats to Peter and the Team Toyminator crew and keep reppin those hachirokus!
Hit up the C4AG forums for the rest of the pictures!
T10’s Twin Truenos
Who would’ve thought two guys from Turn10 (the studio behind Forza Motorsport 2 on the XBOX360) own AE86s? They decided to get together to shoot these two pristine examples one afternoon when the sun was shining through the clouds of Northern California.
Art’s Trueno is just straight cleanliness. Definitely one of the cleanest, well maintained Corollas in the area, and when I first found out he owned one I got really excited. Not only can we talk shop about our favorite 80’s econobox, but we can also do cool things like taking pictures of our prized possessions.
As you can see we are both rocking the “Kouki” (late model) front end, with his being the factory JDM front (pure hotness). Add in some Volks, some nice suspension, the cleanest 86 engine bay I’ve seen in a while and you have Art’s Corolla. It’s also worth mentioning that he’s owned this car for nearly 5 years, creeping up on OG rolla status.
Get over to the T10 Studios blog and check them out!
Clean Cali-Style Levin
Considering the US only ever got Trueno body styled AE86’s, seeing a Levin in America is a pretty special thing. This super fresh example is owned by Club4AG member shannon who has spent the last 2 years bolt-by-bolt restoring this USDM coupe to its current glory.
Takumi Project Reunion
Some of the guys across the pond took it upon themselves to re-open the history book and re-live the fun they all use to have at the Takumi Project shop before it closed down. Check out some of the rigs that turned up at the reunion over at Club4A-G Forums, all looking amazing I might say!
4A-G + Turbo + 10,000RPM = 400HP
Hasselgren Engineering is currently developing a Turbo Formula Alantic 16v for the Falken sponsored AE86 driven by Taka Anono, to compete in the 2008 Formula D Championship. The engine will be good for 10,000rpm and make around 400rwhp. This power will be passed through a OS Giken close ratio FC rx7 box, a mk1 supra rear end and smoking up wide Falken tyres. This is a powertrain that any AE86 owner would die for, it will be truly amazing to see and we cant wait for video footage.
More photos of the insane powerplant after the jump.
Is This The Inspiration for the AE86’s Successor?
Scion today announced it will drift a new RWD RS*R Scion tC in Formula Drift events this year. The RS*R Scion tC features a 3SGE Beams motor, HKS GT3037 turbo and intercooler, Blitz Dual SBC boost controller, and AEM EMS engine management system that outputs more than 400 horsepower, compared to the stock 161 horsepower. A G-Force five-speed sequential transmission, Tilton triple carbon clutch, Project Mu brakes, RS-R coilovers, Sparco Corsa seats and a custom concept wide body kit are also fitted. The tC is rollong on Enkei RPF1 wheels and Toyo Proxes® R1R™ tires.
